The global probiotics market was worth nearly $49.4 billion in 2018, and it is estimated to reach $69.3 billion by 2023. The growth of probiotics market is mainly attributed to the growing consumer awareness regarding the health benefits of probiotics, increasing use of probiotics as a dietary supplement, and growing scientific researches on probiotics for new applications. It is reported that increasing number of people take probiotic supplements daily for gut health, weight loss, bloating, indigestion, and other health benefits.

Research indicated that the gut microbiota plays a significant role in metabolism and energy utilization. It affects the body’s health from birth and throughout life by controlling food digestion, the immune system, nervous system, and other bodily processes. If gut microbiota has the perturbations or changes in the composition of microbial communities, it may contribute to the development of many diseases [2]. Several studies have demonstrated that probiotics could introduce beneficial functions into the gastrointestinal tract or enhance the functionality of existing microbial communities [3]. The mechanisms of probiotics include manipulation of gut microbiota diversities, immunomodulation, fortification of the intestinal barrier, and stimulation of epithelial cell proliferation. With the rapid growth rate, probiotics and fermented milk products have attracted great attention from the food industry and health care industry  [1]. Kefir, a type of fermentation milk with long history, has been used as an effective agent for the prevention of various health issues such as gastrointestinal diseases and allergies.

AB-Kefir is a powdered-kefir product. SYNBIO TECH INC. selected and screened five strains of lactic acid bacteria from kefir and subsequently recombined them with Lactobacillus acidophilus LA1063 and Bifidobacterium longum BL986. The competitive advantage of AB-Kefir over the traditional Kefir is its ability to produce a variety of postbiotics (metabolic byproducts), such as bacteria, vitamin B, organic acids, essential amino acids, and water-soluble polysaccharides, which are involved in the regulation of cell metabolism and energy production. Furthermore, AB-Kefir keeps all the substances active with the coating technology SYNTEK™ thorough. This unique technology improve the quality of probiotic products in terms of strain potency, stability, gastric acid/bile salt tolerance and specific functions. In addition, clinical studies have shown that consuming AB-kefir can alleviate abdominal symptoms, ranging from diarrhea, abdominal pain, and abdominal bloating, also resulted in a considerable improvement of the general well-being [4].

Gastrointestinal problems are prevalent in the society nowadays. Probiotic supplements that confer positive effects on the digestive health and overall well-being have become a worldwide booming market in recent years. Many studies have shown that kefir, with its complex microbial community, exerts beneficial effects on gastrointestinal functions. Additionally, it has also been found to aid in the regulation of the digestive systems of lactose-intolerant individuals. Therefore, based on their beneficial effects and tolerability, AB-Kefir probiotics are highly suitable to maintain the gut health of the whole family from children to seniors.
