Synbio Tech Vice President Mr. Kuei-Ming Lee leads the team in receiving the award from ESSNA Chair Luca Bucchini.

Synbio Tech Inc. (TWSE: 1295) is proud to announce that its proprietary probiotic strain, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum TWK10®, has been named the winner in the “Sports Nutrition and Active Lifestyle Ingredient” category at the 2025 Vitafoods Europe Innovation Awards, one of the nutrition industry’s most prestigious honors. The award recognizes ingredient innovations with high scientific merit, commercial potential, and positive impact on public health.

TWK10® was selected for its dual function as both a probiotic and a postbiotic, and for its novel mechanism of action targeting the gut-muscle axis. Originally isolated from traditional Taiwanese fermented cabbages, TWK10® has demonstrated the ability to influence physical performance indicators by modulating gut microbiota and host metabolism.

The ingredient has undergone extensive scientific validation, including multiple double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials, showing benefits in exercise performance, endurance, and physical recovery. In 2023, TWK10® was further developed into a heat-killed postbiotic format, offering greater formulation stability and compatibility with high-temperature applications such as functional beverages and protein supplements.

In addition to its innovation in formulation, TWK10® has recently strengthened its intellectual property portfolio with the issuance of two new invention patents:
  • U.S. Patent No. 12,274,719 B2 – Method for Improving Walking Capacity of Elderly Subjects (issued April 15, 2025)
  • Korean Patent No. KR 10-2787988 B1 – Recognizing its role in supporting muscle mass and mobility in older adults
These patents reinforce TWK10®’s position as a scientifically supported solution for active aging, opening new market opportunities in mobility support, sarcopenia nutrition, and healthy aging supplementation.

“Receiving the Vitafoods Innovation Award is a powerful validation of TWK10®’s clinical strength, safety, and commercial potential,” said Mr. Chuan-Hsien Yang, General Manager of Synbio Tech. “As global demand for evidence-based probiotics and postbiotics continues to grow, we remain committed to expanding the global reach of TWK10® through rigorous science and responsible innovation.”

To date, TWK10® is supported by 16 granted patents, 8 human clinical studies, 27 peer-reviewed publications, and 13 international awards, solidifying its role as a leading functional strain in the global probiotic industry.

Synbio Tech continues to advance its mission of Changing Lives with Probiotics, driving forward the next generation of microbiome-based solutions for performance, recovery, and healthy aging.
